3D-Web-Based Architecture, Integration, and Intelligent Characters
The core competencies and experiences of the DFKI research department “Agents and Simulated Reality (ASR)” are research and development in the field of three dimensional, real-time, high quality visualizations. A particular focus is on (a) native, interactive 3D graphics for the 3D Internet and the specification of the 3D-Internet via XML3D, (b) Virtual Reality and especially interaction with and within virtual environments and (c) Real-time, distributed simulation and rendering of large environments using multi- and many-core computers.
In the context of VERVE, the DFKI will be mainly responsible for the browser based visualization platform as well the overall architecture and integration activities. The common platform will be based on the XML3D as the underlying architecture and will integrate many of the technologies developed within the VERVE project. In addition DFKI will contribute its long-term expertise on artificial intelligence for creating more realistic virtual characters.
With respect to standardization, DFKI will use its existing activities within the W3C Community Group on “Declarative 3D for the Web” to further develop and evaluate that standard with respect to the needs of the VERVE project.
